Mobile Polar Museum Arrives In Rostov

Mobile Polar Museum Arrives In Rostov
October 8, 2007

On October 10-14 Mobile Polar Museum devoted to Schmidt and Papanin’s expeditions will be working at Rostov Regional Museum, B. Sadovaya Street.

The centerpiece of the Polar museum exposition is formed by two tents. One is an exact copy of Ivan Papanin’s polar tent. The other is a modern tent in the Russian national colours. In April, 2007 they were pitched at the North Pole zero point together with Russian and MVK (the author of the project) flags.

The exhibited photographs are telling about the International Polar Year. For instance, about the deep-water manned vehicles Mir-1 and Mir-2 Arctic Ocean diving and erecting the Russian flag at the Ocean’s bottom. Here one can see the exhibits from the museum “The Role of History in Life and Business”: the log-books of M. Gromov and high-latitude Arctic expedition’2007.

“The project’s very important for Russia and exploration of the North Pole”, said the project’s initiator Alexey Shaburov.

The Museum tours Russian cities. It has already worked in Moscow, Saint-Petersbourg and State Duma of Russia.
